A rainy Sunday morning, 10am, 11 February 2007, the 15 nervous little tots start arriving to await the news that they’ve been so eagerly waiting for, for 7 months! ...Who will be announced as the first ever “Kiddies of the Year winners!”

The finalists arrive and get handed a bag with the coolest new kit in town proudly sponsored by Pumpkin Patch South Africa. As they excitedly fit into their outfits, and mom’s tighten the adjustable waists for the little ones, Nelia Cutino (owner of Fun 4 Kidz) explains how the laid back fashion show will run.

The mommies of the finalists convince Nelia to eventually start the show as she steps up onto the ramp to welcome all 280 family, friends, and special guests! Of that, there was a wopping 90 kids running around! An outstanding turnout to Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm in Paarl. With a short introduction about Fun 4 Kidz, we head on our way by introducing our first, very nervous mommy and finalist, Daniella du Toit, straight from Paarl herself! The audience cheers as each of our finalists take the stage and strut there stuff! The primary school category was too adorable as they showed off their true personalities by doing a few great poses and blowing some kisses!

After the fashion show, we were spoilt rotten by Skippy Peanut butter, as we handed out some awesome T-shirts and caps! Once that was taken care of, Russle from Fox Magic Entertainment kept us at the edge of our seats whilst he did some amazing magic tricks and even ate fire!

As soon as that was over, the sun came out and we split up for some lunch. While mom’s and dad’s unpacked their picnic baskets, we handed out the biggest party pack ever to each child and spoilt them with some cooldrink too. The afternoon was packed with loads of fun! A crocodile tour, where the kids got to see real live crocodiles and they even got a chance to touch a baby croc! René from “Fun 4 Party Animals” sponsored a formidable crocodile and princess castle jumping castle! The kids had an absolute blast! They even got a chance to feed some animals that were on the farm. Ursula from “Face Painting and Funky Hair” made each kids dream come true by transforming their faces into that of their super heroes!

After lunch and the croc tours were over, we all gathered back in the hall for some lucky draws and finally… to hear the final big announcements! The kids were all so nervous and couldn’t wait to see if they would be the winner of the 2006 Fun 4 Kidz “Kiddies of the Year” competition! Before they stepped back on stage, they were each given a cute T-shirt that said “I’m one of the cutest kids in Cape Town."

As each age group, babies, toddlers and primary school kids were called up, I slowly announced the runners-up before the winner! We’d like to congratulate Thanaa’ Scott (Babies winner), Kaylee Stassen (Toddlers winner), and Abdul-Muhaimin Rowland on winning our very first “Kiddies of the Year” competition! All the finalists that took part were all great sports and were treated to a delicious slice of cake from Angel’s Delites before they left.
