Raving fans get rewarded
By Adrian L Marnewick

EvaluNet recently held a GetAhead Raving Fans competition that attracted entries from GetAhead users all over the country. GetAhead is EvaluNet's home range of software used by over 7,000 South African learners. "Our registered users were e-mailed and asked to enter the GA Raving Fans competition," said EvaluNet PRO Adrian Marnewick. Each user was asked to state why they consider themself to be GetAhead's biggest fan. First place was won by Jason Bright of Sweet Valley Primary, while Chantalle Smith from Hoerskool Kalahari and Cheydon Wiercx from Grey Junior came in second and third respectively.

Jason won an MP3 player to the value of R400 while Chantalle and Cheydon each received Spur meal vouchers.

Chantalle is in Grade 11 in Kalahari High School, Kuruman in the Northern Cape. She plays hockey for the school’s first team, is a member of the Pom-Pom girls, and the revue group. Chantalle is a very dedicated student who plans her daily goals (after having been a School of Tomorrow student for 4 years).

Chantalle Smith

Jason is a grade 5 student at Sweet Valley Primary School. He loves his sport and plays cricket, tennis and hockey, and is in the ‘A’ team for all three sports. His hobbies are sport (playing and watching), reading and math. He achieved well at the end of 2006 receiving an academic excellence award, the Ben Kettles Enrichment award together with the trophy for the most improved tennis player. His dream is to become the next ‘Jonty Rhodes’. He would like to continue excelling with maths and would like to one day be either an accountant or an actuary.

Cheydon could operate a mouse even before he could walk and has been using computerized educational games since he was 9 months old. He has always been in the top few of every class – and works hard to stay there. His teachers have always remarked on his exceptional reading ability and grasp of numeracy. Cheydon plays rugby & cricket, he is a strong swimmer and has recently been selected to play flute for the Grey Junior Band. A weekly boarder at Grey Junior in PE, Cheydon makes full use of his weekends with his friends; bicycling, swimming in the lagoon, lost in imaginative play or on his PlayStation or Computer.
