Our Story
We’re a team of people who create simple educational software products that solve real problems that teachers and children face daily. We became fed up by educational software that was difficult to navigate, difficult to understand, difficult to use and downright plain ugly.
So, we embarked on a mission to create educational software tools that were relevant to South African teachers and children and that made a real difference in their lives.
We make educational software
Our core business is educational software. We create simple solutions to meet the common needs of teachers and children in South Africa. Quality, reliability and usefulness is what drives us to create excellent software that really works. Learn more
We make software for schools and individuals
We create different educational software to meet the needs of entire schools, individual teachers, and individual learners. Our products help schools run more efficiently, help teachers save time, and help learners achieve better results. Learn more
Doing education differently
We believe that simple is better, and less is more.
To convey one of the most striking elements of our company’s culture, that the people of EvaluNet believe passionately in education, we’ve introduced the concept of “doing education differently”. The ‘old-school’ way of thinking is out. We believe that technology integration is the future and can help both learners and teachers.
Executive Team
Dereck Marnewick
Dereck started EvaluNet in 1995 after seeing a need for quality, South African-based educational software. He studied a BSc at the University of Cape Town and taught science for over 20 years. Dereck pioneered assessment software in South Africa with his invention of e-SCHOOL and has grown EvaluNet into the multi-national company it is today.
Jenny Marnewick
Jenny joined EvaluNet in 1997 once the company started growing and the need for a marketing manager arose. She has years of experience in entrepreneurship and small business growth and is currently an EvaluNet Director.
Paisley Downing
Paisley, the 1998 Old Mutual & Afrikaanse Handelsinstuut “Junior Businessman of the Year” winner, has a long history in finance and accounting after studying a BEcon at the University of Stellenbosch and Hons BCompt at Unisa. Paisley oversees our finances, administration and management teams.
Essie Warneke
Essie has been with EvaluNet since the very beginning in 1995. As one of our longest serving, but youngest at heart, employees, she has become part of the furniture. Handling all administrative and financial tasks with militaristic precision, she has a long history in the banking and finance industry and is our Administration Manager.
Adrian Marnewick
Adrian is the brains behind the critical and often (self-proclaimed) “humorously funny” editorials in all of EvaluNet’s monthly newsletters. He studied Business Management through the University of Stellenbosch and the Louis Group Business Academy and Project Administration through the University of Cape Town. Adrian was previously a director of the Volunteer Wildfire Services, based in Cape Town, and now serves as EvaluNet Business Development Manager, focusing on online development.
