Schools receive nearly 1 Million rand in prizes and incentives from EvaluNet
On Friday 31 August 2012, a teacher at Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School received a brand new Kia Rio 1.4 worth R165,000 in what became the culmination of the EvaluNet GetAhead “Win A Car” Competition.
EvaluNet, a Cape Town-based educational software developer, ran an exciting competition with 101 schools across the country earlier this year. The competition saw almost R1 million in prizes and incentives received by schools, teachers and learners. Prizes included tech products from Incredible Connection, weekend away packages for teachers from Protea Hotels, gift vouchers from Pick n Pay, plus the grand prize of a new Kia Rio 1.4. There were also 98 lucky learners who received their choice of an Apple iPod or Sony PSP.

The grand school prize category saw 3 schools winning Incredible Connection vouchers for a combined R60 000. The prize winners in this category were Beaumont Primary (Somerset West) winning R30 000, Kenridge Primary (Cape Town) winning R20 000 and Scottsville Primary (Pietermaritzburg) winning R10 000.
Schools that took part in the competition promoted EvaluNet’s “GetAhead” educational software package. GetAhead is based on the South African curriculum and allows primary school learners to revise and practise subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, Afrikaans and Life Skills. There are currently tens of thousands of learners across the country making use of GetAhead to improve their school results.
Teachers were very excited about the prospect of the incentives and prizes they could win, with one enthusiastic teacher from Durban commenting: “Well done on an excellent competition! Everything about it was absolutely amazing!!!”

EvaluNet is currently planning the launch of their next competition, due to begin in October 2012. Managing director, Dereck Marnewick, says: “We were delighted that we were able to give back to the teaching community with our GetAhead competition. It was such a success that we’ll be running another competition launching in October. The prizes are going to be even bigger and better.”
